Bill Bryant’s Statement on the Senate’s Vote to Reject Lynn Peterson’s Confirmation
(Olympia, WA) Today, the Senate took the extraordinary step of removing Inslee's Secretary of Transportation who proved unable to manage multi-billion dollar mega projects.
Following the vote, Bill Bryant released the following statement:
Governor Inslee called the move in the Senate “shameful”. What’s shameful is the traffic jams the governor and the secretary of transportation have put Washington drivers in daily.
You can measure a governor by who he or she appoints. Governor Inslee’s inability to lead agencies and run the government is revealed by the type of people surrounding him.
In his 2012 campaign, and then again after his inauguration, Inslee promised to appoint qualified people who would bring “disruptive change” to Olympia. Instead, he appointed a transportation secretary whose background was in sustainable communities.
He appointed a state legislator to head DSHS, who after three years resigned amidst numerous, serious mismanagement problems at Western State Hospital. His appointee to the Health Care Authority has admitted failing to accurately calculate health care costs, creating a budget shortfall. He appointed an insider to run the Department of Corrections, an agency that knew for three years it was releasing prisoners early.
Inslee didn’t bring “disruptive change” to Olympia. He brought mismanagement.
