Association of Washington Business Endorses Bryant for Governor
“Bill Bryant will bring a fresh, new perspective”

(Olympia, Wash.) – Just a week after hosting the first debate between Jay Inslee and Bill Bryant, the Association of Washington Business - the state's oldest and largest business association – announced their endorsement of Bill Bryant for Governor.

"I am honored to have the support of the leading job-creators in the state,” said Bryant, a former Seattle Port Commissioner. “Regardless of the Governor’s happy rhetoric, the state is not doing well economically. We have the 8th highest unemployment rate in the U.S., a dramatic drop from 19th when the governor took office. Outside of the Puget Sound, unemployment is 27 percent higher than the national average.”

New unemployment figures released this week by the U.S. Department of Labor show Washington dropping from 9th to 8th worst unemployment rate over the last month. West Virginia, Mississippi, and Illinois each leapfrogged Washington.

“We’re at a crossroads in this state where we must decide whether to continue on the current path, which is leading to robust growth in just a few counties in the Puget Sound region, or adopt policies that will encourage growth and opportunity throughout the state,” said AWB President Kris Johnson. “After the last four years of tax and regulatory proposals from the governor’s office – including a carbon cap and an unattainable water quality rule, both of which will increase costs for consumers and employers – our board believes that Bill Bryant will bring a fresh, new perspective to an office that’s been held by one party for more than 30 years.
