Inslee's Incompetence Hurts Foster Children and Costs Taxpayers Millions

If incompetent leadership resulting in the loss of accreditation for one of the major mental hospitals in Washington wasn’t bad enough, Jay Inslee’s mismanagement of the Department of Social and Health Services has resulted in failed care for abused and foster children.

It’s hard to believe, but the hundreds of millions of dollars in lawsuits and payouts – paid for by Washington taxpayers – isn’t even the most egregious part of Inslee Administration’s incompetence.

A year ago the Seattle Times reported, “the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services has been hit with scores of lawsuits." The countless lawsuits not only exposed the massive financial cost totaxpayers, but the heartbreaking personal cost as well. "Many of the most severely injured were childrenwho were tortured, starved or raped. Some died."

None of the DSHS officials responsible for abandoning those most in need were fired. None were suspended. None were demoted. None even lost pay. A competent leader holds people accountable and takes corrective action when systems fail.

It's unimaginable the governor did not order a wholesale review of DHSH when children under its care were hurt or died.

Foster children are the most vulnerable and at-risk members of society and Governor Inslee has failed them.

Too often over the last four years there has been a very real human cost to Jay Inslee's inability to manage and run the government. Our children are paying the price.
